The WINS Education Program

The objective of WINS is to teach the children to become self-sufficient and responsible for their own future.

As well as ensuring that they receive their regular schooling, we offer additional lessons for the children after school that includes;

English lessons

English is the international language. With this skill, the child can communicate with their worldwide sponsors and with visitors from other countries, that come to visit Indonesia. Furthermore, this will give them a step ahead in their future professional careers.

Computer literacy

These skills will enable the child to explore the vast educational possibilities of the Internet. They will also be able to communicate using e-mail. Each child has an own email account so they can communicate with their sponsor and report their book keeping and progress at school.

Care for the Environment

Earth is the place where we live, therefore we have to take care of the earth. The children are taught to be responsible for their own environment. Subjects include ecosystem, garbage management, hygiene and the overall care for the environment. Everyday the children all help to improve the environment by cleaning and maintaining the yayasan’s environment, and planting plants and trees. We also teach the children to separate organic and non organic garbage and how to make compost.

Cultural activities

Culture is the identity of any nation. To honour our cultural inheritence, we have cultural activities such as Balinese dancing and Gamelan lessons. All the girls can dance the Balinese dances, and make offerings and all of the boys have learned to play the Balinese gamelan.

Future prospective

Lessons relating to varoius professions are very important especially for our older children, to help them determine and prepare for their future profession, when they graduate from Senior High school. By giving these lessons, they will be able to choose a profession that is right for them depending on their talents and capabilities. Sometimes we invite successful people to speak to the children, who have had a similar youth background as our children, to teach them that with determination and hard work you can reach your dream and become successful.

Sexual Education

In Indonesia, speaking about sex is still considered a taboo, that’s why many girls get pregnant while they are still at school. Often they have to stop their education, and by doing so lessen their prospects for the future. The children need to be more informed in order to resist these realities. The subject of HIV/Aids is also taught.

Planning and Financial Management.

The children are taught to deal with planning for their financial future and with money. Each child gets a bank account. The sponsorship funds for their education are put into this account. Each child learns to keep their own financial books under adult supervision.

Play and Learn

Playing is part of the children’s world but between playing and learning there must be balance. Everyday after the English lessons and community service, we give the children time to play or do their hobbies.

All the lessons are free for other children in the local community. WINS does not want to make a difference in ‘’our’’ children and the ‘’other’’ children of the community.

They are the community.
